The featured items are eight types of jeans.

· S501XX
It's the 501 again after last time, but I made a point of not showing the same thing, and put the work in. I'm not fond of the WWII model — the sewing is too unruly — but even so it's packed with points to examine.

· 701XX
Actually a model I get a lot of inquiries about. An essential women's item for studying form. It uses a selvedge side seam; I hope it can be a hint for building women's patterns.

· 517e
One of the standouts of recent years, and a prime example of a modified silhouette. The point of interest isn't that it's boot-cut — surprisingly, it's in the rise.

· 505e
A zip-fly tapered silhouette. Born in the transition from workwear to fashion item, it may well be the most popular model after the 501.

· 606E
The 606 is probably the first slim-silhouette vintage jean that comes to mind. Where the 505 is a taper within the 501 lineage, the 606 is a slim type of a wholly different kind.

· 646e
A bell-bottom silhouette. How much does it differ from the boot-cut 517? I wanted to look with that angle too. Like the 606, it's an orange-tab, and the same can be said of its structure and background.

· 519
The 519 has a strong corduroy image, but I heard its silhouette is well regarded and wanted to look into it.

· RED 1st Standard
Up to what era counts as vintage? Seen that way, I had to conclude this item isn't vintage. I hesitated over including it, but I did — because I knew it would be absolutely interesting for studying form.

Time flies — this is already the third volume. With vintage items, there's a lot that's hard to state definitively, and I basically want you to enjoy examining it yourselves, so until now I tried not to write much. But I got many comments asking for more to read. Photos are still the main thing, but I've written some text to fill the open space. It's writing made of my own subjectivity and imagination — I'd be glad if you'd read it in the spirit of "so there's someone who thinks about it this way."

I'd be truly happy if it could sit on your shelf as the ramblings of a pattern maker possessed by the fascination of clothes that connect the past to now.
